Published in Ceremony Magazine!

We are so excited to announce that we have been featured in Ceremony Magazine! Amy Harrick is the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Ceremony. She has created a magazine that is smart, fashionable and classy. For the past few years we have had our eye on this magazine, last year we made it a goal to be a part of it!

All of the vendors in this magazine are top notch and we feel truly honored to be amongst them. We were especially floored when we realized they wanted to use our image as the title page to the photography section! What an amazing compliment.

These spreads are in the Orange County 2010 issue, I have heard that we have also been published in the Los Angeles issue so stay tuned for those!

I would like to send a shout out to Sayeh + Esmo, Ryan + Peggy and Erika + Toby. Thank you for the work that you have done to make this a reality. We are so excited that all of you have been featured!

Bonnie + Cabe : Santa Barbara Engagement

We had the priveledge of signing up my cousin and her fiance Cabe for their wedding this summer in Santa Barbara. When she first told me she wanted her engagement session to be at her apartment and favorite local spots, we were kinda worried the photos would less dynamic than our usual stuff. Lo and behold we get to Santa Barbara on the most beautiful sunny winter day and all doubts were shed. Bonnie, artist and amazing photographer and Cabe, a musician and guitarist for the band The Depths were coming up with a ton of ideas and remained chill and jovial all day. You know how sometimes the photos we admire and look back at the most, are often the most basic ... sitting on the couch, talking with a friend, etc. I think we nailed it. They also really wanted to emphasize their California roots ... we'll see even more "homegrown" sunshine-state flavor at the wedding this July for sure!

PS. decency police ... the photo of all our shadows depicts my index pointing up into the air with excitement ... hey, its hard to shoot with one hand :)

New Work Coming !!!

What can I say ... we had the busy season winter to date (!). Not as much wedding action (its december, no surprise) but we documented over 10 couples ahead of the game for their summer weddings. I posted a few already, but plenty more to come so stay tuned.

Plus, for you architecture geeks out there ... I will have my Portland series done, as well as Vegas, LA and a Santa Fe Springs eco-home project. I am sure you're on the edge of your seat right now just thinking about it.

Hope everyone have a stellar holiday season and an even better New Years! I think 2010 will be pretty good :)

Facebook's New Headquarters

Okay, not extremely recent news, but still worthy of sharing. Facebook recently upgraded their headquarters to a 150,000 square foot building that previously belonged to Agilent Technologies. Motive for moving was to facilitate interaction and connection, as well as reflection. This is achieved by housing all of the companies employees under one roof and encouraging them to write on and add artwork to unfinished walls.

I recently assisted architectural photographer Benny Chan on location at Cal Tech in Pasadena. We photographed the new Annenberg Center for Information Science and Technology. It is a pleasantly attractive building with many LEED / eco enhancements throughout, but the key design element that stood out to me was the "common" spaces for people to gather and discuss ideas. Every hallway had a whiteboard / magnetic wall within close proximity to a low slung table and chairs to encourage the spontaneous sharing and jotting down of ideas. As a "think tank" for Cal Tech's brightest professors for all areas of math and science, it's important to get people together and record ideas and thoughts as often and as quickly as possible. Might this trend progress into other forms of daily life (coffee shops, retail, education?). Encouraging art and conversation to rise from the mundane everyday is just one of many ways we can improve the way we problem solve and learn in the future.

As a recent addition to facebook (please be a fan if you aren't already - Sargeant Photography *wink* :) we're still discovering its potential to share information across multiple platforms quickly and easily. I am glad to find out that facebook treats its work environment with the same open transmission as its widely used (but often regrettably addictive) social networking experiment.

Ashley + JT : Manhattan Beach Engagement

We had an amazing time with Ashley and JT. Started out at their favorite watering hole Shellback, then explored downtown before ending up on the sand for an amazing sunset! Gotta love winter engagements at the beach ... it gets chilly but the sun stays low in the sky all day :)

Congrats again you guys!! Can't wait for the wedding this March!
